Diana Tandia on Returning to NYC's Berber Street Food

Plate Staff

What are you doing differently this time around as you revisit Berber Street Food?

I closed Berber Street Food in New York to take a much-needed break—I was burned out from managing the business solo. Luckily, stepping back gave me the clarity to reimagine its future. The main thing that’s different with Berber Street Food now is that I have a partner, Jie Gao, a former Berber customer who shares my vision. Jie’s background is in trading for Morgan Stanley and tech, but while growing up in China, food was the highlight of her family time. She’s chosen to take this journey with me, and I’m so thankful! Berber is going to focus on corporate catering, private events, pop-ups, and chef collaborations—and a healthy work-life balance this time around. – 2020 Plate Chef to Watch Diana Tandia, chef and co-owner, Berber Street Food, New York City
